Crimes are among the top offenses in Canada
It is an inevitable circumstance anywhere in the world, regardless of making it to the list of being among the safest countries.
Witnessing the aftermath of a crime scene and accident could also be a lot to take in not to mention doing a massive blood cleanup! It requires a strong stomach to execute the proper cleaning procedure and could be emotionally exhausting for a normal person. Attempting to clean up the aftermath all by yourself could do more harm than good. It is more than using a mop and bucket. It's not easy at all!
It is a must for the affected individuals to leave the crime vicinity for their own safety. One is the obvious effect of dealing with post-traumatic stress and anxiety. The sight and smell of blood can cause more mental stress of the eyewitnesses. Further than that, it is also to avoid the potential health risk drawn from biohazard and harmful substances.
Biohazards
Biological hazards, or commonly referred to as 'biohazards', are any organic substances detrimental to human health. They are mostly caused by pathogens (viruses, microorganisms, and bacteria) as well as bodily fluids, human or animal tissue or blood, and other infectious agents which could all be present in the aftermaths of a crime scene.
We have integrated the Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS) 2nd Edition’s guidelines into our own operational biohazard practice requirement to ensure our patrons’ safety, and to bring the best restoration service in Canada.
An essential part of our preliminary procedures is to determine the containment level according to risk group classification to ensure safe handling:
Risk Group Classification
- Risk Group 1 (RG1; low individual and community risk)
At this stage, the level of safety measure is minimal and poses insignificant threat to humans causing low risk to public health. They are mostly caused by viruses and bacteria. - Risk Group 2 (RG2; moderate individual risk, low community risk)
Agents and microorganisms that cause significant threat to humans that usually range from mild to severe infections. They are usually transmitted through having direct contact with infected materials, and spread of disease caused by pathogens is insignificant. - Risk Group 3 (RG3; high individual risk, low community risk)
Pathogens that causes low risk to public health but can be fatal to exposed humans. Medications and treatments are readily available for this classification. - Risk Group 4 (RG4; high individual risk, high community risk)
Viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms that cause life-threatening illnesses without any treatments available making it more harmful to public health.
Conducting a thorough local risk assessment (LRA) is as essential as doing a biohazard clean up. Doing so would let us define operational measures appropriately to achieve the standard requirement for precaution.
Cleaning up the blood marks yourself can be very traumatizing and odious, and there is no reason why calling the professional biohazard cleaners should be the best option regardless of the risk group. Remember that biological substances bear major risks to your health as they can cause bacterial infection or allergy. Worse, you could be contaminating the area even more rather than eliminating them due to inappropriate cleaning procedures and lack of equipment.
Crime Scene And Biohazard Clean-up Compliance with Standard Requirements
ComPro Cleaning & Restoration Services adheres with CBS’s protocol on the basic biosafety equipment to prevent further contamination and restore a biohazard-free zone: high efficiency particulate air (HEPA)-filtered primary containment devices, certified biological safety cabinets, primary containment caging, decontamination technologies, supply tanks and vacuum systems. These equipment are utilized to remove chemical, biological and physical hazards which then requires for the team to strictly implement the use Personal Protective Equipment suits.
Contamination can easily be avoided through calling the right team of professionals to handle the crime scene and trauma biohazard cleanup. We aim to extract any biological materials and restore the place back to its livable state, and that is what we are here for.
Our team primarily evaluates the scene to determine the level of biohazard levels, and execute necessary biosafety measures using a combination of advanced equipment specialized for contamination and sanitation control.
More so, our highly skilled cleaning technicians underwent training program following the Biosafety Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to know the hazards of pathogens and toxins associated with the environment, and to determine the best biosafety approach.
Crime Scene And Biohazard Clean-up Cleaning Procedures
Our team follows a six step procedure in completing the crime biohazard clean up. We fill in the last tasks often deemed as trivial in a crime scene case -- to eradicate any visible and invisible evidence of a traumatic event.
- ComPro starts by evaluating the entire vicinity to contain the situation and prevent cross contamination.
- Next, we take precaution on removing blood, bloody fluids and other contaminated materials.
- Disposal of infectious materials using safe containers. The biohazard wastes will then be transported to a licensed medical waste facility for incineration and steam sterilization.
- Preparation for disinfecting which involves the removal of furniture and other fabric materials.
- Decontamination, sanitation and disinfection using approved hospital-grade solutions
- Disinfecting the team’s equipment
Adherence
We ensure to operate in the name of compliance. Our core responsibilities of fulfilling our duties are in accordance with some of Canada’s administrative bodies and existing regulations on pathogens and toxins, particularly:
- Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)
Provides leadership in addressing public health threats through implementing activities and regulations that improve the lives of Canadians. - Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA)
Outlines the obligations, prohibitions and precautions on dealing with pathogens and toxins, as well as licensing and setting the protocols for exposure reporting analysis by personnel. - Human Pathogens and Toxins Regulations (HPTR)
Creates protection and security framework designed to protect the public health and safety against the risks associated with pathogens and toxins.
Remember that the first step towards recovery is to restore your home or any site back to its pleasant state. Our company’s mission doesn’t just stop on providing the best service of restoration, but on the goal of bringing back the feeling of safeness to our patrons.
